AI is high on the agenda, with CIO/CTOs balancing investing budgets and deciding on their approach to AI versus the tangible benefits they will receive. Many leaders are hesitant to jump into AI, questioning if AI is just futuristic tech or if it can deliver what we think it can now.

What would your advice be to those sitting on the fence, considering whether to start an AI project?
“Start small with manageable projects that can demonstrate value. Choose projects that encourage confidence within your team and from other board members. Once you’ve done this, you can explore larger projects with the buy-in and confidence of your business.”
How much will AI cost businesses?
“It depends on the type of business you are, how big you are and what your ambitions are. However, if you break it down, ofcourse there will be costs. The things you won’t have much flexibility on are software, infrastructure, licencing and talent acquisiton. AI skills are commanding additional rewards and is the one area businesses often don’t think about when launching AI projects.”
Which factor will impact everyone starting their AI journey?
“Talent and skills is going to be really really important going forwards for business where AI is concerned. Upskill your existing workforce but also go into the market for additional roles that you may not have needed before. If you are going to go on the AI journey, which everyobody will at some point, you are going to need to look at talent and skills.”
How can a CIO/CTO drive quick results with AI?
“As a CIO/CTO make demands of your existing vendors and suppliers. What can I do with my existing licensing products? What have you done for other customers? Take advantage of this new area, ask your suppliers if you can be a guinea pig to help them develop their AI capabilities. It’s a win-win at this point. Each vendor has AI capabilities you can leverage.”
